Vanity press —a company that charges writers to publish their work. Often retains ownership of the books and does little promotion. Also called a “cooperative publisher” or “subsidy publisher.”
Varnishing —a coating process that results in a hard, glossy surface. Used for protection and eye appeal on book covers.
Vendor —a supplier who sells goods or services.
Verso —a left-hand page, as opposed to a recto, a right-hand page.
Viral marketing —word-of-mouth promotion, especially on the Internet.
Visuals —a catch-all phrase of book production that refers to a photograph, illustration, chart, graph, or ornament: anything other than straight text. Also called “artwork.”
VOR— Vendor of Record. A term used by distributors and wholesalers to designate one company as the primary source for book returns. |
